Professor & Research Coordinator
Shannon Pirie is a graduate of Carleton (B.Arch) and McGill (M.Arch) Universities, and defended her PhD dissertation on the Idea of Home at l’Université de Montréal in February 2015. In addition to teaching, Shannon is the Research Coordinator for the School of Architectural Technology at Sheridan College. In 2017 she received one of the inaugural Sheridan SRCA (Scholarship Research and Creative Activities) Growth Grants for “Passive House Design-Build” where students built 1:1 high-performance wall sections, both virtually and physically. In 2019, Shannon and her co-investigator from the School of Community Studies received a SSHRC Engage Grant to explore the link between Passive House construction and affordable housing, using Parkdale Landing in Hamilton, Ontario as their entry point. Shannon is a passionate and enthusiastic professor who innovatively delivers curriculum. As a researcher, her work seeks to better understand the intersection between building science and quality space-making.
